Meeting demand for clear, crisp and consistent print
BluePrinting is a family-owned print business working out of Sun Valley, Idaho. BluePrinting customers include engineers and architects working on local commercial and residential projects.

“We have a good niche, lots of second homes, high-value projects. Our customers want clean, crisp, consistent drawings. They want gray-tones and they want detail,” explains Jeff Meyer, Owner of BluePrinting, Inc.

The company was running two large-format printers, one to do color, the second black and white. BluePrinting also ran an HP DesignJet 4500 Printer. “I had the HP DesignJet 4500 running from the moment I got it in the door, and even then we weren’t keeping up with demand,” says Meyer. “We were running at the max. This kind of strain on production was unsustainable. It was time to look for a better approach.”

More uptime, unrivalled speed
BluePrinting is a long-standing customer of Steven Enterprises. “We’ve bought supplies from Steven Enterprises for more than five years. They understand our long term needs. When they showed us the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer I was chomping at the bit,” says Meyer.

“The HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer would simplify production for BluePrinting by delivering mono’ and color print in one machine, capable of producing up to 30 D/A1 high-quality pages in just one minute. It also offered the speed Meyer required,” confirms Tim Weeks, Steven Enterprises.

For Meyer, the business case was a no-brainer: “Back-and-forth multi-pass printers were never fast. I’d had the HP DesignJet for 10 years; the reliability was unquestionable. I knew the HP PageWide XL 8000 would be as reliable. The speeds were incredible. I could now turn around some jobs in two minutes, but it was the color that was the essential, additional benefit that has transformed our business.”

High-quality and color as the new normal
Meyer highlights the dependable print quality: “With our previous print technology, when we changed out a print drum we would get pristine black for maybe one month before things started to deteriorate. I’ve run 500,000 square feet on the HP PageWide XL 8000 and it doesn’t look a day past new. The quality is consistent.”

Meyer explains the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer has altered the way clients view his business. “The perception of BluePrinting has shifted from a functional, efficient provider of basic print, to a fully-blown print services provider able to meet their needs for high quality and color.” He credits the HP PageWide XL 8000 directly with a lift in revenues.

The HP PageWide XL 8000 is a gateway printer, says Meyer: “We can be faster, but it also allows us to showcase new services. We can demo prints on Mylar or polypropylene. The HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer opens up new conversations with new clients about new services.”
